Obituary for Carl G. Rhoades

Carl G. Rhoades, 81, formerly of 16 E. Stewart Ave., and 205 Hamburg Rd., Greenville, passed away surrounded by his family on Saturday afternoon, December 29, 2018 at St. Paul's in Greenville.

He was born in South Shenango Township on June 27, 1937 to the late Gordon Lloyd and Bessie M. (Carlson) Rhoades.

Carl graduated from Pymatuning Joint High School in 1955 and the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science in 1959, then went on to serve in the United States Army at the Sandia base hospital in Albuquerque, NM. He served his internship at Foley and Zarecky Medical Pharmacy, located in Jamestown, PA and within the Greenville Medical Center, where he continued his professional career. In the mid 1970's, he purchased the pharmacy, and operated as Rhoades Medical Pharmacy. He then sold his business to the Medicine Shoppe and retired in 1999. Throughout his career, he served as a delegate and officer to the Pennsylvania Pharmacists Association.

He was an active member of St. Michael Roman Catholic Church, where he served as a Eucharistic minister.

Carl was an avid sportsman, conservationist and outdoorsman. He was a member of: Mercer County Federation of Sportsman, of which he served as the Greenville delegate; Greenville Sportsman Club, where he held different offices; Ducks Unlimited; and the NRA, just to name a few. He was awarded the Seth L. Myers award for outstanding dedication and service in the field of conservation. He was also a leader of the Mercer County Youth Conservation Camp.

He is survived by his wife, Eva Lou (Hall) Benton-Rhoades. They were married on April 30, 2011. Also surviving are: a son, Douglas M. Rhoades and his wife, Malissa, of Hartstown; three daughters, Michele Rhoades of Alexandria, VA, Christina Bargdill of Richmond, VA, and Katie Kelly and her husband, Mike, of Maple, NC; seven grandchildren, Jacob Rhoades, Eli Rhoades, Shannon Kelly, Daniel Kelly, Quinn Bargdill, Kameron Ganje, and Lauren Ganje; a brother, Harold "Homer" Rhoades and his wife, Dixie, of Jamestown, PA; and two sisters, Kay Thurber and her husband, Tom, of Jamestown, and Barbara Smith and her husband, James, of Greenville.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, of 47 years, Celine M. (DiRaimondo) Rhoades.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 2, 2019, from 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm at Osborne-Williams Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 73-75 Columbia Ave., Greenville.

A mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Michael Roman Catholic Church, 85 North High St., Greenville, at 10:30 am on Thursday, January 3, 2019, with Fr. David Foradori, as celebrant.

Burial (with committal prayers) will follow the mass at St. Michael Cemetery, Greenville.
